Basic checklist
Heart
- Dissection of pulmonary trunk, checking for thrombosis
- Ears
- Atrial appendages
- Coronary vessels
- Follow the direction of the blood flow: Superior vena cava > right atrium > tricuspid valve > Right ventricle > Pulmonary vein > Left atrium > Mitral valve > Apex of the heart > Left lateral wall and interventricular septum > Papillary muscles
Other thorax
- Esophagus: Distinguish from trachea and dissect

| Texture | Dull | Shiny |
| Wall adherence | Yes | No |
| Color | Grey. Possibly zebraic appearance by lines of Zahn, with mixed red and grey/yellow | Dark purple or bilayered yellow/red (by gravity sedimentation) |

- Pulmonary arteries and veins
- Trachea: Dissect
- Thyroid: Dissect
- Bronchi: Dissect
- Hilar lymph nodes
- Lung parenchyma
Retroperitoneal
- Descending aorta: Cut dorsally in order to avoid risk of cutting ureters
- Renal arteries until entry into kidneys
- Adrenal glands
- Kidneys: Cut sagittally
- Clear the renal pelvis and follow the ureters to the bladder
- Prostate
- Urinary bladder
Peritoneal
- Remove excess omentum
- Duodenum and esophageal entry into ventricle
- Ventricle: Dissect along greater curvature until duodenum
- Ampulla of Vater until cystic duct
- Gallbladder: Dissect
- Liver: Dissect
- Spleen: Dissect
- Pancreas: Dissect
