Basic checklist

Heart

  • Dissection of pulmonary trunk, checking for thrombosis
  • Ears
  • Atrial appendages
  • Coronary vessels
  • Follow the direction of the blood flow: Superior vena cava > right atrium > tricuspid valve > Right ventricle > Pulmonary vein > Left atrium > Mitral valve > Apex of the heart > Left lateral wall and interventricular septum > Papillary muscles

  • Renal arteries until entry into kidneys

  • Kidneys: Cut sagittally
  • Clear the renal pelvis and follow the ureters to the bladder
  • Prostate
  • Urinary bladder

Peritoneal

  • Remove excess omentum
  • Duodenum and esophageal entry into ventricle
  • Ventricle: Dissect along greater curvature until duodenum
  • Ampulla of Vater until cystic duct
  • Gallbladder: Dissect
  • Liver: Dissect
  • Spleen: Dissect
  • Pancreas: Dissect

Brain

  • Inspect: Signs of herniation? Hemorrhages?
  • Basilar artery and circle of Willis: Dissect
  • Midbrain, pons and cerebellum: Separate
