Microscopic evaluation
When alveolar fluid is seen, use high magnification to evaluate any stexture.

Edema is seen as an eosinophilic homogenous alveolar content. -
Pulmonary hemorrhage, with red blood cells which in this case are necrotic, being hard to distinguish on low magnification. The necrosis may be a post necrotic finding.
