Gross processing

If no lesion is visible, take random samples, each including at least one inked margin. If you see any suspected area, measure its gross distance from a surgical margin. If possible, sample it to include an inked margin. If not possible, the gross distance is sufficient unless it is highly suspicious (in which case you should preferably take one or more contiguous sections so that you can measure the distance to the margin microscopically.
