Template:Hyperplastic polyp versus tubular adenoma
| Hyperplastic polyp[1] | Tubular adenoma[1] |
|---|---|
| Nu dysplasia | Dysplasia |
| Proliferative epithelium restricted to base | Proliferative epithelium present at the surface |
| Gland lining cells mature at the surface | No surface maturation |
-
Non-proliferative (left) versus proliferative (large at right) colonic crypts, where the latter's proximity to the surface confers a diagnosis of a tubular adenoma.
-
In nuclear crowding, also look for inflammation: Here a hyperplastic polyp with inflammatory reactive changes, reminiscent of adenoma.
